Dealing with the frustrations of parenthood
September 29th, 2009
I’ve posted 4 posts in this series on How to Control Your Frustrations and Anger as a Parent. I could go on and on about all the scenarios that occur daily that makes us frustrated and angry. But I will end with this.
There are many things inherent in being a parent that causes us frustrations.
1. We are dealing with children who are by definition and by nature immature and not able to reason with us.
2. We usually go into parenting at a relatively young age ourselves. We ourselves are still maturing and trying to figure our way in the world. Our finances, career, relationships, etc are often not stable.
3. We have to have a close relationship with our children who have a distinct personality, maybe a personality that we find hard to get along with.
4. We have to deal with our children every day, day and night. We can’t just leave them at the office.
5. We are under a lot of pressure with a great responsibility for another human being who is dependent on us not only for their physical well-being, but we are here to provide for their character building, psychological health, spiritual foundations, educational opportunities, and much more.
I’ve always wanted to be a mom. I thought it would be fun! The joys of parenthood are certainly many, but honestly, the daily grind is full of frustrations. It’s no Disneyland. Being a good parent is really a hard job.
So don’t be afraid to ask for help.
Join a local MOPS group. Talk to other women who’s gone through what you’re going through. Seek help online. I hope my site here is a help and encouragement to you. There are many other good websites and forums that allow you to interact with other parents.
The important thing is, don’t get stuck in a rut and be overwhelmed.
One of my favorite saying is: Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results. Do something different. Changing your own behavior will likely lead to a change in your child’s behavior as well.
