Happy Valentine’s Day!

February 14th, 2009

I hope you had a chance to share a few special moments with your love ones.

Here are 14 things I love to do with my family:

1. Watching Mary Poppins while enjoying brownies with ice cream.

2. Playing video games together.

3. A stroll together after dinner under a clear night sky.

4. Staying up late playing a board game.

5. Snuggling up with a good book on a rainy day.

6. Serving hot chocolate to my kids after school on a cold day.

7. Singing along with the radio in the car together.

8. A “slumber party” with everyone sleeping in my room.

9. Swimming at night on a warm summer evening.

10. IMing each other when we are in different places.

11. Looking at baby pictures together.

12. Reading and laughing at silly jokes.

13. Making sand castles at the beach.

14. Eating dinner by candlelight.

What do you LOVE to do with your family?

  1. Katy,
You always have such great ideas that help build strong and loving families. I think these ideas are a great way to grow your bond with your children and was thrilled to see that it wasn’t a long list of things that cost a million dollars because that’s not what makes a family.

When I was growing up two of my favorite traditions were on our birthdays my mom would wake us up and tell us the story of the day we were born. Even though I will be 27 years old in July, it never feels like my birthday until I hear the story of my birth.

The other great tradition that I remember is we used to make mom breakfast in bed on mother’s day. Considering what a horrific cook I am now, I can’t imagine that the food we prepared was even edible (even though I am sure that my sister Jessica made it so) and my mom always acted as if it was the best meal she had ever had and raved as if it had come from the fanciest restaurant.

  2. Kate: That is so nice! Now when your kids make you breakfast in bed, you know how to react.
