Happy Thanksgiving!
November 24th, 2008
I’m going out to buy the turkey today…and getting ready to feed 20+ people at my house on Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. It’s not a huge ado with presents and all that, but it’s enough of an excuse to bake pecan pies and pumpkin bread, get the house cleaned up, and pass on a valuable message to the next generation.
Before the chaos of the football games and pigging out begin, spend just a moment to make it truly a season of Thanksgiving.
1. Enjoy a small intimate Thanksgiving brunch before the guests arrive. Each member of your family can share about all the things you are thankful for as a family. See below for Dennis Rainey’s famous Thanksgiving French Toast recipe for this occasion.
2. Have each person draw a picture or write down what he is thankful for. The picture shown on this post is a few of ours from past year. We put these up on the wall like a small quilt. It’s great to take them out each year and add to it.
3. Read a few favorite Bible passages. For Thanksgiving, my favorite is Deuteronomy 8:10-18Â – “When you have eaten your fill, be sure to praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you…Do not become proud at that time and forget the Lord your God…Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful”
Happy Thanksgiving!

Rainey’s Thanksgiving Company French Toast Recipe
½ cup margarine
1 ½ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
8-12 slices of bread
8-9 eggs
pinch of salt
1 ¾ to 2 cups milk
Melt margarine in a 9 x 13 pan. Add brown sugar and cinnamon and stir. Lay bread on mixture. Beat eggs and salt together, then add milk. Pour over bread. Cover and place in refrigerator overnight.
The next morning, uncover and bake at 350° for 45 minutes. Cut into squares and place upside down on plate so margarine and cinnamon are on top.
Serve and enjoy!
